Our Process
Whether you’re opting for a custom build, or choosing one of our pre-designed homes, we want to make the process as straightforward as possible.
We do this by managing every step of design and construction, providing you with one point of contact throughout the entire process.
Our experienced team ensures that all our key partners: architect; energy assessor; engineer; certifier; trades; and suppliers are all working towards a clear, common goal.
While every build is different, here’s how we approach each step of the process.
1. Understanding your needs
Your needs are at the centre of the design and build process, so we take time to understand your requirements from the outset.
This includes: the current state of your site, and whether demolition is required; the kind of home you'd like to create; the way you'd like internal spaces to work, and how they may need to adapt over time; if you'd like to us assist with extra services, like specialised custom joinery or landscape design and planting; and of course, your budget.
2. Interpreting your needs into a design
If you're opting for one of our pre-designed homes, we work with you to select the one that's right for your needs and site, tailoring it to make sure it meets your requirements.
From adjusting room sizes, to advising on design elements that have an impact on the EER, and finalising materials and finishes, we aim to make sure all your needs are reflected in the final design.
And if you'd prefer a custom home, we identify an architect that's suited to your brief, from among a range of practices that have expertise, often award-winning, in designing energy-efficient homes.
From there, we work closely with you and the architect to coordindate the design process – from the initial concept drawings to your approval of the finalised plans.
3. Proposal of work and budget for the project
Our early and ongoing engagement in the design process is important in two key ways. It ensures the scope of work is clear, and it also means we can develop and adhere to an accurate project budget.
Once the scale of work is determined, we provide a lump sum quote and detailed specifications, giving you complete transparency over what’s included and what’s not at each stage.
4. Construction, management and communication
We ensure you're always up-to-date on progress by using a simple, cloud-based software system to keep all the information about your build in one place. We also escort you on site during key stages of the construction phase, so you can experience progress first-hand.
5. Finishing touches and moving in
We take pride in putting the finishing touches on your home, to make your move in a seamless experience. As part of the handover, we provide you with a maintenance manual that includes all the product details and contact information relevant to your build.
6. Maintenance checks
Our maintenance service commitment is over and above that required by the ACT regulations and standard HIA building contract. We schedule a visit six months after you've moved in to inspect your home and respond to any maintenance items.
